· ABOUT ME ·
Hello and welcome to Viva Birth! My name is Amy Dignam and I am a fully qualified hypnobirthing practitioner, a birth activist, an artist and a mother to 3 wonderful creatures aged 8, 10 and 14. I am originally from Italy but have been living and working in London for the past 22 years, so, although I still hold tight to my Italian accent, I am practically a Londoner.
I am very passionate about women's and birthing people's health and rights especially during the perinatal time. I Co-Chair the Maternity Voices Partnership at Chelsea & Westminster and West Middlesex hospitals. In this role, I actively work towards the development and improvement of maternity care and the future of maternity services in England. I am one of the Founding Mothers of the Maternal Journal, an award winning project devised by artist, midwife and birth activist Laura Godfrey-Isaacs, which promotes creative journaling to support positive mental health and well-being during pregnancy, I am the co-founder of Play the race Card and I am a Birth Doula.
My journey into hypnobirthing is very unusual, in fact, I can say that I stumbled across it after the birth of my third and last child! I had 3 births and they were all completely different from one another. The first one was highly medicalised, the second one was super speedy and the third one was a very calm, focussed and almost pain-free birth. Low lights, soft voices, comfortable breathing, warm water... I was the first one to touch my little boy. It was such a magical moment I never thought I could ever experience!
I had never heard of hypnobirthing before, however, I knew that what I had just experienced was something special. Surely people knew about it? Did it have a name? I started researching and suddenly there it was, hypnobirthing! This whole new world opened up to me and finally it all made sense. A few years have passed by, but I have never forgotten that feeling of empowerment and accomplishment. Now that my children have grown up a bit and I have re-claimed some of my time, I have been able to train as a hypnobirthing teacher and I am now so excited to be able to share these amazing tools hypnobirthing has to offer and support women during the most important and life changing time of their lives!
With the Doula work I will be consolidating my learning offering a personalised course for each individual always considering and respecting all different cultures, traditions and personal backgrounds.
